Education and
Experience
- A high school education or an equivalent combination of
education and experience is required.
- One year of experience in CDL driving.
- Valid CDL driver’s license; ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
Skills and Knowledge
- Must submit and pass a physical examination or possess
a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of
a thorough background check, which includes a driver’s record and a
criminal records check.
- Pre-employment and continued random drug screening will be required.
Responsibilities
- Drive trucks for various departments including the Mail
Room, Food Service, Physical Plant, Housing and Food Services Maintenance
Department.
- Deliver and pick up mail, materials, equipment, food,
supplies, tools, etc.
- Maintain records of purchase, pick-ups, deliveries,
etc.
- Load and unload trucks. Keep truck clean, report
malfunctions and have it serviced when needed.
- Maintain work areas and vehicle in safe, sanitary and
efficient operating conditions.
- Remove trash to proper areas.
- Observe safety regulations and maintain highest
standards of sanitation.
- May assist in departmental operations when not driving truck, i.e., sort mail, clean, sweep, and act as helper.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking back and forth, repeatedly climbing in
and out of truck.
- Frequent bending at the waist; able to bend to below
the knee (80 – 90% of shift).
- Frequent stooping and/or crouching (65% – 95% of
shift).
- Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck, and torso
(75 – 95% of shift).
- Full range of arm movement required (extension,
twisting, and bending of arm and
shoulder, reaching overhead, etc.) (80% – 95% of shift). - Hand and wrist dexterity, fine motor skills (e.g. to
sort mail).
- Visual and cognitive capability sufficient to read
labels and follow instructions.
- Repeatedly lift 50 pounds to waist height and overhead
throughout the shift; and lift items weighing up to 70 pounds off the
truck (loading and unloading items).
- Repeatedly carry up to 75 pounds to and from loading
dock to inside buildings.
- Able to push/pull items of up to 100 pounds.
- Exposure to cleaning solutions, fluorescent bulbs,
chemicals, dust, strong smells, etc.
- May work in conditions of extreme heat or cold.
- Able to perform all physical functions needed to drive vehicles with manual and automatic transmission.
